As of July 1, 2022, all California on-premises alcohol beverage servers and their managers are required by law to have Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) Certification.

An alcohol server is defined by the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) as anyone who checks customer IDs for alcohol service or entry to an on-premises licensed establishment, or anyone who takes, pours or delivers alcoholic beverage orders to customers.
